High Country Grandeur

Acrylic on Canvas
24" x 36"
$1,400.
JUST SOLD!!

This is one of my 3 masterworks that I've created so far this year.  The view is the central Oregon Cascades with Mt. Jefferson featured.  I have explored countless streams and meadows since I was a young boy and this painting is the essence of my feelings for that wild country.  A great amount of detail and repainting took place to get this work to the finish line.

La Vecchia Strada ( The Old Road)

Acrylic on Canvas
20" x 16"
$850.
JUST SOLD!

I have been painting an on-going Tuscan series for eight years now.  This painting may be one of my all-time favorites.  The sky and hills started to take on a different look and feel than the image in my head.  It virtually painted itself while I applied one hundred thousand brush strokes!  I moved forward carefully when I realized that it had a special 'atmosphere' that had to carry through the entire painting.

Serata Venezania (Venetian Sky)

Acrylic on Canvas
10" x 8"
$325.
SOLD!
This is a landmark scene at the entrance to the Grand Canal in Venice.  The "Santa Maria della Salute" is four hundred years old and is held up by over one million pine poles!  The contrasts of color and brightness along with ancient architecture attracted me to this scene.  I wanted to quit halfway through!  The detail on the building is so exacting and I was using a four hair brush at times.

The Sun's Promise

Watercolor
13" x 10"
$450.
SOLD!

I have painted Willow Ptarmigans in a small format before, but this time I wanted to explore the relationship of a pair in their winter plumage.  It still amazes me that a brown and russet bird knows when to change color as winter gets near.

They are friendly, social birds and they tend to be a loyal companion to their mate.

Painting this background when it was very wet and mixing the colors was a real risk, but I liked the way that it turned out.  I would say that I got lucky!

Harvest of the Waves

Watercolor on Handmade Paper
6.5" x 12.5"
$425.
Sold!
This little watercolor is painted on one of my last pieces of handmade paper in my favorite size.  It takes a steady hand and a very small brush to pull this off.  I enjoy the wide variety of weaves and designs that they worked into their daily lives.  There are three different Northwest tribes depicted here.

Standing Tall

Watercolor
23" x 14"
$700.
SOLD!
A passing storm over the Cascades has dropped the first snow of the season.  The sun returns and the mountaintop glitters for a brief time before the melting begins.  The title comes from my thoughts of these trees and what they endure through bitterly cold winters and hot summers.  It may also represent what you an I endure in life and hope to remain standing tall.

Pueblo Magic

Watercolor
11" x 16"
$525.
 SOLD!
The Kachina doll is much more than a souvenir sold in gift shops. To the Pueblo tribes of the Southwest, they are an important and sacred aspect of their religion. The large ones have been used in their rituals for a thousand years, while the smaller carvings are used to teach the young children.

Lakota Pride

Drybrush Watercolor
11" x 14"
$700.
 SOLD!
This piece started out as a simple composition of a single figure standing in the tall prairie grass. It soon became a major work of art in a somewhat small format. Sometimes it seems as though the painting takes over and just paints itself.
The wardrobe, shield and spear are authentic. The painted design on the tipi is an exact depiction painted by a Native artist two hundred and eight years ago.

Whispers Through the Grove

Acrylic on Canvas
14" x 11"
$325. + shipping
SOLD!
This painting also took awhile to finish, but it was fun to paint.  As I paint, I can actually feel myself transported into the scene.  When I visit an aspen grove in the fall, I sometimes just sit and listen to the sound of the quaking leaves.  It is truly music for the soul.

Here Comes the Sun

Watercolor
9" x 13"
$400. + shipping
SOLD!
I found this beautiful and delicate little Northwest Coast basket and knew that it had to be surrounded by my favorite wildflower, the trillium.  This is a view of nature that we might not notice while on a walk, but it has a lot to offer.

Across the Universe

Acrylic on Panel
5" x 5"
$195 + shipping

This little gem is a favorite of mine.  It pretty much painted itself with me not knowing what the end result would be.  The colors are very striking, especially floating on a black background, in a black frame.  This is one my first in the "Dreamscape" series.

Windows Through Time

Acrylic on Canvas
24" x 48"
$1,100.
SOLD!
Collection of Mr. & Mrs. Arlie Brown

This piece is a commission that was requested at my Street of Dreams studio.  The client asked for a geometric theme.  I said okay, knowing that I have never used geometrics in any abstract!  I really got into it and I think that it turned out well.  Seeing it in its actual size is impressive.  *Please click on the image to enlarge it.

Dancing Water

Acrylic on Canvas
23" x 13"
$600.
SOLD!!
Collection of Brickhaven Bed & Breakfast

I painted this awhile ago, but just delivered it to the new owner.  It was fun to paint even though a bit challenging.  I guess that they are all kind of hard or they would not be worth doing.
It is a classic Northwest waterfall at my favorite time of the year.
